But if you think we will immediately pack our bags for the EuroLeague, that is unrealistic. Still, removing some restrictions is a positive signal. Sport should stay out of politics, and banning our athletes is unfair. I hope sports officials are slowly realizing this. But without resumed flights and restored logistical conditions, our participation is nearly impossible." The leader also stressed that the comeback should be gradual: "There will certainly be people who oppose a fast return. Therefore, taking small steps is sensible. You cannot change everything overnight. Overall, we have made progress, but it remains minimal compared to our EuroLeague ambitions." According to sports analysts, FIBA's decision reflects a fragile balance between sporting principles and political pressure. Allowing individuals to compete while still prohibiting teams suggests FIBA is testing international reactions. Russia was once a European basketball powerhouse, with clubs like CSKA Moscow and a women's national team that won multiple Olympic medals. Their prolonged absence has noticeably hurt the appeal of international competitions. From a Vietnamese sports perspective, there is a lesson in patience. Developing basketball nations like Vietnam can learn how Russia maintained its youth training system despite isolation. Domestic leagues still operated and young talents were still developed.
